Gustavo de Arístegui on Russian invasion of Ukraine: “Russia cannot allow Ukraine or Kazakhstan to fall into NATO"

Image
Gustavo de Arístegui   is a diplomat, ex-ambassador and writer. Gustavo is of the opinion that the constant tensions in Ukraine and Kazakhstan could threaten an invasion by the Russian Federation if the Western countries do not issue any response. He has had the opportunity to express his opinions on the matter in Herrera at COPE, and has clarified that the current situation is in a complex moment to manage. Russia's attempts are quite clear today and it is that for the expert they seem aimed at "building a belt of friendly countries", with the main objective of avoiding "instability". "Vladimir Putin cannot allow countries under his influence, such as Kazakhstan and Ukraine, to fall into the hands of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization," says de Arístegui. The Soviet power has always longed for the old Great Russia, which occupied large territories throughout the European-Asian zone: " they don't feel comfortable flirting with the West ...

Gustavo de Arístegui emphasizes that the European Union had to change its common Cuban policy because of the socialist government in Spain

Image
Gustavo Manuel de Arístegui is a Spanish politician and diplomat. According to Gustavo de Arístegui y San Roman, the Latin America and Cuba policy of the government of Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, is of the serious consequences of Latin America and Cuba -Policy of the socialist government in Spain and European union. The country has harmed national and European interests through its politics. As a result, Spain has lost immense influence on Latin America since Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero took office and contributed to the instability in the region. In Gustavo de Arístegui’s thoughts all previous governments in Spain have always had an influence on Latin America and Cuba. He points two major reasons for this: Firstly, because Spain has always had a solid and independent position on Latin America within the EU. Spain also had a significant influence on opinion-forming within Europe. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case. On the ot...

Russia attends G20 meeting set to be dominated by Ukraine conflict

Image
NUSA DUA, Indonesia: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was on the Indonesian island of Bali on Thursday preparing for a G20 gathering that will be his first face-to-face meeting with the fiercest critics of his country’s invasion of Ukraine. The G20 foreign ministers’ meeting runs until Friday in host country Indonesia, which has this year grappled with the tough balancing act of running a global summit buffeted by geopolitical pressures and a global food crisis blamed on the Ukraine war. There was tight security on Thursday as foreign diplomats descended on the tropical island for a meeting where the Russia-Ukraine conflict will be front and center. Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said her country and like-minded nations would use the G20 meeting to highlight the impact of the war. Read More : https://www.arabnews.com/node/2118191/world

Chris Pratt’s war show lacks a hero

Image
One of the best things about the streaming landscape is the possibilities it offers to take stories that would feel rushed in a couple of hours and fully flesh them out in a way a movie never could — exploring backstories and character arcs with more detail, multiple perspectives, big twists and surprising reveals. Sadly, it can also mean a story that would have been hard pushed to fill two hours can be stretched so thin as to lose all sense of momentum, purpose and coherence. Amazon’s new military thriller — “The Terminal List,” based on Jack Carr’s series of novels — would have made for a so-so movie (maybe), but instead we’re treated to a beleaguered Chris Pratt struggling to imbue Navy SEAL James Reece with enough depth to fill eight one-hour episodes. He never comes close. Reece is the sole survivor of a botched covert mission, which leaves the rest of his squad dead. Shellshocked and reeling with guilt, he returns home to the USA, only ...

Brandon Lewis quits: Resignations from Boris Johnson's government hit 50

Image
The avalanche of resignations from Boris Johnson's government continued unabated on Thursday, raising pressure on the prime minister to finally bow to his colleagues' demands to quit. Brandon Lewis, the Northern Ireland Secretary, became the fourth Cabinet member to step down, following Simon Hart the Welsh Secretary who quit on Wednesday night, and Rishi Sunak and Sajid Javid who sparked the revolt on Tuesday. At least 50 members of Mr Johnson's team how now quit. Mr Lewis told the Prime Minister that he was submitting his resignation with “regret”, but said that a divided Conservative party cannot win elections. The Northern Ireland Secretary, who took over the role in early 2020, told Mr Johnson that the Government had taken “huge strides to level up the economy of Northern Ireland and have not shied away from taking other difficult decisions; confronting the practical issues with the Northern Ireland Protocol, advocating for the reproductive rights of women and champion...

Russia proposes six-month cross-border aid renewal for Syria

Image
As the UN Security Council prepares to vote Thursday on humanitarian aid deliveries to opposition-held northwest Syria from Turkey, Russia agreed to continue such deliveries but only for six months — not a year, as many UN Security Council members, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and more than 30 nongovernmental groups want. Russia proposed amendments to a draft resolution by Ireland and Norway reducing their year-long time frame for deliveries. Council diplomats said consultations were continuing late Wednesday to see if a compromise could be reached. The Security Council scheduled a vote for Thursday morning. If no compromise appeared, the draft resolution by Ireland and Norway to extend cross-border deliveries for 12 months would be voted on first. If it failed to get nine votes, or was vetoed by Russia, the Russian resolution with a six-month extension would then be put to a vote. In early July 2020, China and Russia vetoed a UN resolution that would have maintained two border c...

Oil price falls as sell-off continues

Image
Brent crude futures extended declines for a third session on Thursday, slipping under $100 a barrel, as fears of a potential global recession spurred concerns about oil demand. Brent crude futures fell 94 cents, or 0.9 percent, to $99.75 a barrel by 0231 GMT after tumbling to a session low of $98.50 earlier. WTI crude futures slid 79 cents, or 0.8 percent, to $97.74 a barrel. Both benchmarks closed on Wednesday at their lowest since April 11. The declines follow a dramatic fall on Tuesday despite tight global supplies. WTI slid eight percent while Brent tumbled nine percent - a $10.73 drop that was the third biggest for the contract since it started trading in 1988. “Oil is getting decimated with little new information about production or consumption,” said Stephen Innes, managing partner of SPI Asset Management. “Still, with commodity traders turning very risk-averse due to growing demand and still hawkish (US) Fed policy concerns, the recessionary headline risk is like an anvil aroun...

Georgia Guidestones: explosion damages 'America's Stonehenge'

Image
An explosion has damaged the Georgia Guidestones — a granite monument often referred to as "America's Stonehenge" — investigators say. Law enforcement agencies were looking for clues into the blast at the rural site east of the US city of Atlanta on Wednesday morning. A large part of the structure was destroyed when "unknown individuals detonated an explosive device," the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said on its Twitter feed. The Elberton Granite Association, which maintains and preserves the stones, has put the cost of replacing them at hundreds of thousands of dollars, WHNS reported. Both the chamber and ExploreGeorgia.org refers to the monument as America's Stonehenge, although the moniker is also used to describe an archeological site of stone structures in Salem, New Hampshire. Stonehenge, a prehistoric landmark on the Salisbury Plaine in Wiltshire, England, is believed to date back to 3000BC. Read More : https://www.thenationalnews.com/world/2022/...

Russia warns humanity at risk if West seeks to punish it over Ukraine

Image
Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said attempts by the West to punish a nuclear power such as Russia for the war in Ukraine risked endangering humanity, as the near five-month conflict leaves cities in ruins and thousands homeless. Russia's Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine has triggered the most serious crisis in relations between Russia and the West since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, when many people feared the world was on the brink of nuclear war. US President Joe Biden says Russian President Vladimir Putin is a war criminal and has led the West in arming Ukraine and imposing crippling sanctions on Russia. “The idea of punishing a country that has one of the largest nuclear potentials is absurd. And potentially poses a threat to the existence of humanity,” Medvedev, now deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, said on Telegram on Wednesday.
