Azim Premji: A Biography

Early Life and Education: Azim Premji , a distinguished Indian business tycoon, was born on July 24, 1945, in Bombay, India. He hailed from a family deeply entrenched in business, with his father recognized as the Rice King of Burma. Despite an invitation from Muhammad Ali Jinnah to settle in Pakistan, Premji chose to remain in India. He pursued his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and married Yasmeen, with whom he shares two children, Rishad and Tariq. Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has cut ties with her brother, Babun Banerjee, after he expressed displeasure over the Trinamool Congress re-nominating Prasun Banerjee (no relation) to contest the Howrah Lok Sabha seat in the forthcoming general election. National Commission for Women (NCW) member and BJP leader Khushbu Sundar on Tuesday stirred a controversy after calling the Tamil Nadu government’s scheme of giving Rs 1,000 monthly to women heads of the family a ‘pitchai’ (alms). BJP leader Khushbu Sundar  Protesting against the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government over the drug menace and the arrest of Tamil film producer Jaffar Sadiq in connection with a Rs 2,000-crore drugs bust, Sundar said that women will not vote for DMK if they are given Rs 1,000 as "alms". "If DMK eradicates the drug menace and shuts down Tasmac, people would not need to resort to seeking Rs 1,000 alms," she added. As the people adopt recycling methods to manage with less water, NDTV visited some parched areas and spoke to them about how life has changed. Bengaluru water crisis Residents of suburban Babusapalya are dependent on water tankers for their daily supply, and that has taken a severe hit over the past couple of months. "We need four tankers daily. We are getting only one or two. We are facing huge problems over the past two-three months," one resident said. After days of hectic discussions, the Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra, comprising the BJP, Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar's NCP, has made more headway in their seat-share talks. 2024 LS Elections The NDA partners have finalised the four seats from where Ajit Pawar will field its contestants, sources told NDTV. Mr Pawar is bargaining for more seats in the state, they added.
