These inspections aim to address compliance issues and improve the safety and quality of spices being exported, particularly following recent concerns about pesticide residues. Officials also pointed out that every country arrives at a different residue level as it depends on the dietary choices.  Recent Concerns Over Ethylene Oxide (EtO) The move comes after health authorities in Hong Kong and Singapore raised alarms about ethylene oxide (EtO) levels in spices from MDH and Everest. Foreign Portfolio Investors Shift Focus Amid Market Uncertainties May has seen significant activity from Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) in the Indian equity market, with sales reaching Rs 28,242 crore ($3.38 billion), marking the largest sell-off since January 2023. This trend reflects a strategic shift as FPIs reassess their positions in the wake of various global and local factors. Sensex ends 383 points lower at 57300, Nifty closes just shy of 17100; M&M top gainer.  The Numbers Behind the Sell-Off According to data from the National Securities Depository Ltd (NSDL), FPIs sold Rs 26,020 crore worth of Indian equities up to May 17 in the current calendar year.
